Rolling Hills
Daybed

Rolling Hills Daybed for Peaches was a project that came about summer 2021. It involved a collaborative effort between Peaches the Studio for the furniture design and myself designing and making the cushion’s quilt patterning as well as inventing recipes and custom colors with natural dyes. This piece was a part of their 2021 kickstarter campaign and helped to raise $22,000. The goal of the project first was to create color and texture to emulate the rolling hills of wheat fields in the Oregon Dalles in support of a new collection of dinnerware designed for the kickstarter campaign’s supporter gifts.

Custom Natural Dyes.

The process began with preparing a design theme and palette. Then the exciting work of mixing custom natural dyes, each with their own unique recipes and then hand-dying the fabrics. The final colors were made using carrots, carrot tops, avocado pits and skins as well as fresh rose petals.

Design & Construction.

Patchwork quilting was a key part of this project. In order to achieve the desired resemblance to rolling hills and wheat fields the pattern design needed to have a thoughtful use of color blocking and texture.  The final design was laid out in rhino to get precise measurements for quilt pieces. The fabric was dyed, cut to size and patchwork was constructed over a thick layer of batting to emphasize texture. Lastly the remaining pieces were sewn together to form the box cushion.

Kick Starter

Finally the piece was ready to be photographed! The piece along with the entire kick starter collection was transported to a beautiful wheatfield in the oregon dalles where photos and video was taken to show off the collection. These pieces then lead to us raising 22,000 dollars for future projects.
